Information
There are two types of wire thread inserts Shank thread inserts.
Standard or "free running" shank inserts provide smooth free
running threads, while "screw lock" shank inserts provide a
self-locking torque coil on the male member through a series of
"chords" on one or more inserts.
Free-rotating shank threaded inserts are larger in diameter than
the threaded holes in which they are installed. During assembly
operations, the torque applied to the tang reduces the diameter of
the lead coil and causes it to enter the threads. When torque or
rotation ceases, the coil expands like a spring, permanently
securing the insert to the threaded hole.
Screw Locking Shank Threaded Inserts provide a unique elastic
internal locking thread that grips the bolt and prevents it from
loosening under vibration or shock. Screw locking inserts allow
repeated assembly and disassembly without loosening the grip on the
screw, even in tough metals such as cast iron, alloy steel,
titanium, etc.
